The area of Kadıoğlu mosaics is located within the boundaries of Çaycuma District, Kadıoğlu Village, Çobanhasanlar Quarter, 45km southeast of Zonguldak city. In 2008, a decision was made to preserve the long known mosaics, located within private land and the Ereğli Museum Directorate started a rescue excavation. Led by Handan Özalpay of the Ereğli Museum, excavations recovered traces of the ancient settlement, judged to be a villa containing mosaics. Archaeologist M. S. ÖZALPAY noted that the mosaics date to AD 250-260. Also that a single silver coin was found upon the mosaic near the garden area. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism worked for over two years, in order to rescue the Roman period mosaics. In addition, significant knowledge was gain about the history of Çaycuma. The mosaics of Kadıoğlu, resemble those uncovered at Zeugma, and the last season of excavations revealed the lower half of an image of a local villager.
