The Early Bronze Age settlement of Yassıkaya is located 20 km from the Black Sea coast town of Ereğli. Yassıkaya is situated on the southern coast of Gözeren Deresi, in the mountainous area of Ovaköy, in the east. The settlement first attracted the attention of local archaeologist Cumhur Nalcı. Excavations were carried out by Professor Dr. Turan Efe and the Ereğli Museum jointly (a one-month excavation). Both sides of the Gözeren Valley are rocky. The slopes and plains behind are covered in forest.
Settlement:
The settlement is located at the southern end of the Gözeren, situated on a rock that spans a wide area.
Yassıkaya:
East of Sinop province, is the first prehistoric settlement to be found along the coastline which extends west from the Kocaeli Peninsula. Based on the fact that no intensive architectural finds were found it has been suggested that the site may have be a camp site.
